French language education in
Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories French-Language School Board has two schools and 234 students from junior kindergarten (for 4 year-olds) to grade 12. No other school boards in this territory offer full-time French-language teaching. French-language teaching is offered in Yellowknife and Hay River. Services offered by the French-language school board include:

  • Full-time junior kindergarten and daycare services at Allain St-Cyr school in Yellowknife
  • Full-time junior kindergarten at Boréale school in Hay River
  • Teachers specialized in English, Physical Education and Computer Technology
  • A support program for students
  • Various cultural and identity building activities for students
  • A Native program which includes projects with a hands-on approach

French services in the Northwest Territories related to postsecondary education, literacy and adult continuing education are provided by Collège Nordique located in Yellowknife.
