Francophones in Nunavut are known as “Franco-Nunavois”.
The Commission scolaire francophone du Nunavut (CSFN) is responsible for providing French-language public education in Nunavut. The CSFN has one school, École des Trois-Soleils in Iqaluit, attended by 90 students from kindergarten to grade 12. The school board’s mandate extends over the entire territory of Nunavut, which covers some 2 million square kilometers. Services offered by the French-language school board include:
- Childcare services during and after school hours
- French as a second-language remedial tutoring and an after-school homework program
- A home-schooling program for students outside Iqaluit
- Student support services including speech therapy, occupational therapy, psycho-education and psychology
- Laptops for every student
- SMART Boards in every classroom
- A back-to-school summer camp
- A modern school built to sustain extreme cold weather and able to maximize natural lighting
- The northernmost francophone school in the world!
